Smorgon Steel Grinding Systems America History

Smorgon Steel Grinding Systems, America (SSGSA) was formed on October 1st, 2004 when Smorgon Steel Group Ltd. of Melbourne Australia acquired American Grinding Systems, LLC in Kansas City.  American Grinding Systems (AGS) was formed in  2002 through the acquisition of the grinding media manufacturing assets from GST Steel Company in Kansas City, Missouri and Nucor Steel's grinding media operation in Brigham City, Utah.  These assets were consolidated and additional new investments were made to create a new state-of-the-art grinding media manufacturing  facility in Kansas City, Missouri.  The plant was officially commissioned on 3/17/03 when the  rotary forging machine hot forged 3" grinding balls.  By August of 2003, the plant was fully commissioned, producing balls from 1-1/2" through 5-1/2" diameter.  SSGSA is now the largest and most modern grinding media facility in North America.
