Smorgon Steel Grinding Systems America History
Smorgon Steel Grinding Systems, America (SSGSA) was formed on
October 1st, 2004 when Smorgon Steel Group Ltd. of Melbourne
Australia acquired American Grinding Systems, LLC in Kansas City.
American Grinding Systems (AGS) was formed in 2002 through the acquisition of the grinding
media manufacturing assets from GST Steel Company in Kansas City,
Missouri and Nucor Steel's grinding media operation in Brigham City,
Utah. These assets were consolidated and additional new
investments were made to create a new state-of-the-art grinding media
manufacturing facility in Kansas City, Missouri. The
plant was officially commissioned on 3/17/03 when the rotary
forging machine hot forged 3" grinding balls. By August of
2003, the plant was fully commissioned, producing balls from 1-1/2"
through 5-1/2" diameter. SSGSA is now the largest and most
modern grinding media facility in North America.
SSGSA Products
SSGSA provides a full range of forged steel grinding ball sizes
from 1.5" through 5.5" in diameter for application in the mining,
cement, and industrial minerals industries. SSGSA also provides
a full range of high carbon grinding rods for mining industry.
SSGSA Services
SSGSA personnel work directly with our many customers to
help them achieve a more efficient grind by providing not only a
quality product, but other services, such as designing grinding ball
charges.
